The first and foremost mistake that people make while preparing for the beginner is that they don’t know their current level.
Take an IELTS practice test before you start studying. This will enable you to know your talents and what you are lacking.
For example, you will discover that:

Make a Realistic Study Schedule
There is no need to study 8 hours a day. It is better to study for short periods of time, but on a regular basis.

In all four components of the IELTS, a good vocabulary will be helpful.
But don’t try to memorize hundreds of difficult words like that! Rather, memorize words that have meaning, and how they are integrated into sentences.
Create a word file, and add the following to it:
– New words
– Definitions
– Synonyms
– Example sentences
– Common word combinations
For instance, just learning the word important can be changed to learning the words significant, essential and crucial.
Attempt to include new words in speech and writing.
Enhance listening skills
You can practice listening in English at home by listening to podcasts in English, watching educational videos in English, listening to news in English and doing IELTS Listening practice tests.
Start with a skill level that is suitable for you. As you become more proficient in listening, slowly increase to more difficult listening content.
During practicing:
– Different accents
– Numbers and dates
– Names and locations
– Key information
– Paraphrasing
– Spelling

Improve Reading Skills
IELTS Reading can be tough due to time constraints.
Practice skimming and scanning, do not read slowly.

Scanning is a technique used to look for certain information, like:
Names
Dates
Numbers
Keywords
Locations
Practise all the types of questions: MCQs, Matching headings, True False and Not given, Sentence completion.
Review your mistakes after each practice test!
Regularly practice IELTS Writing tasks.
Writing is one area that can be a challenge for many students.
You will have to write Task 1 and Task 2 in the IELTS Academic test. The Writing tasks are different from those of the IELTS General Training.
